Run for the B.E.A.C.H.

Just to let everyone know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so to pay tribute to my mother who died last Christmas from breast cancer, I will be participating in the Lincoln County Run for the B.E.A.C.H. (Breast Cancer Education, Awareness, Cure & Hope). All proceeds will stay in Lincoln County to help defray mammogram costs and expenses related to breast cancer. The Capitan High School National Honor Society of which I am the sponsor also tries to promote breast cancer awareness since this disease is not just an "old lady" disease, but can affect anyone (even men) at any age. This picture of my mother, Sylvia Garrett, was taken in July before she died at Christmas, and it is one of my favorite pictures, especially because she is holding my 2 grandbabies.

Happy Birthday, Fry Daddy!

Ed just received a package from his mom for his birthday (Sept. 11)--a T-Fal fryer that has a basket and drains the oil into a plastic reservoir that can be kept in the fridge. One of the best features is that everything except the removable heating element can go into the dishwasher. We tried it out tonight, so here are the inauguration pictures:

Hummingbird Mania

We have always enjoyed watching our hummingbirds, but this summer they arrived in force. We can barely keep the feeders full of nectar. Here is a video Ed shot. The little voice you hear at the end is Emily talking to her "Papa" (Grampa).

Grandkids Withdrawal

After a week with Jackson at his house and 2 weeks with Emily at our house, as well as 3 days with both of them in Midland at Ed's mom's (Mamaw's) house, we are in "Grandkids withdrawal" big time! Jackson and Emily had so much fun playing together at Mamaw's house in Midland, so I thought I would post a picture or two just to wrap up the summer since I go back to school on Thursday.
Emily liked to sit in my lap, so one morning Jackson said, "I want to sit on Nana Jo, too" so up he came. I was tickled to death, needless to say. Here we are reading Jackson's Bible book.

Jackson and Emily were playing on Mamaw's patio one evening and had lots of fun splashing in her little fountain.Another day we walked over to the community garden and saw this giant pumpkin. Jackson is a real Mickey Mouse kid. Whenever we lifted him or Emily, we would say, "Upsy Daisy." I guess he prefers Minnie Mouse over Daisy Duck because he always says, "Upsy Minnie." Here he and Emily are rocking in Mamaw's chair while they watch "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" on TV.

Hello, Daddy!

The other day Emily looked at the pictures her mama posted on her blog and saw her Daddy's picture. She cried when we left that site on the computer, so I printed a picture of her Mama & Daddy that she carries around constantly. Today she discovered this phone, so now she drags it around so she can talk to Daddy.

Grampa's Socks!

Today Emily discovered she could open the dresser drawers in Grampa and Nana Jo's bedroom. She found a pair of Grampa's socks and took them to him while he was working in the office. Then she went back to rearrange his drawers.

Smokey Bear Then and Now

Last summer when Jackson stayed with us we took him to the Smokey Bear Historical Museum to see Smokey. We bought him some Smokey Bear PJ's while we were there. (Doesn't it look like Jackson is pulling Smokey's chest hair in this picture?)Today we took Emily there to meet Smokey and get some PJ's too.
She was a little more vocal about Smokey than Jackson was, but she is also a few months older than Jackson was when he was here. (Doesn't this next one look like she is tickling Smokey's tummy?)

Emily's Computer Magic

On Saturday Emily was sitting in my lap at the computer waiting for pictures of the babies (Jackson and her) to come on. Because they were loading so slowly, I wiggled my fingers at the screen and said, "Boogedy, boogedy" and the pictures appeared! On Sunday with me and again today with Grampa, Emily wiggled her fingers at the computer and said, "Boogedy, boogedy" and saw pictures of the babies. Too cute!

Mouse, Goofy, and Santa

Emily loves it when we turn on "Mouse." Here she is in her favorite hat with a wooden spoon from the dishwasher watching Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck.
